Ini Ekong Udonwa, Governor 2011, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria

Welcome

My Vision of Akwa Ibom State

To transform Akwa Ibom State into an industrialized, vibrant cosmopolitan city state with good infrastructure that creates and provides opportunities for every Akwa Ibomite.

My dear Brothers and Sisters, my Elders; I thank you today for your continuous support to me towards this Governorship aspiration. My desire and aspiration to lead our state from the rut and transform the economic fortunes of our people is not mine alone but also the yearn of all of us, our state, our youths and our Children.

Akwa Ibom State was created so as to provide opportunities to her citizens regardless of tribe and ethnicity. Our founding elders trounced the corridors of the then administration of Nigeria under the leadership of Ibrahim Babangida so as to achieve this purpose; where our children, our youths, our men and women will aspire, grow and belong to a State where they could call Home - a Land of Promise.

My Message to Akwa Ibom People : A call for action

The present government of Akwa Ibom State should not be given a mandate for another four-year term due to non deliverance of basic amenities, which the leaders promised the people when they campaigned for the office and asked for your support 3 years ago.

It is clear, even to the blind, that the economic, political, and social situations in the state need reforms. A strong, focused, caring, and engaging leadership is sorely lacking and the vacuum has created a fertile ground for the crimes of kidnapping, armed robbery, political assassination, child abuse in the name of witchcraft, and other vices to flourish in our land, which just a few years ago was regarded by other sections of our dear country Nigeria as a Canaan. Today, no one can argue against the notion that our dear state is in dire need of basic infrastructure.

Extract of Message of Hope from Governorship Aspirant – Engineer Ini Ekong Udonwa to Annang Professionals in Malaysia – 28TH September at the Hyatt Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

I thank all of you for allowing me this platform to express my views and to reach out to all Annang youths in Malaysia, Nigeria and in other countries. I also thank all of you for contributing USD5, 000 for the Hand-in-Hand for Progress 2011.

Since this is a critical period for our people to unite as one for the future of our Children and State, as a Governorship Candidate, I want to express my opinions and thoughts on issues affecting us and also, gather a general consensus. I have promised an inclusive government and I am open to advice and criticism.

The progress of Annang youths and professionals in all aspects of Akwa Ibom State is commendable and should be developed further to a greater height than is at present. Annang youths have contributed greatly to the development of Nigeria and Akwa Ibom state and it will not be wise for us to deny these contributions and opportunities due to political process. I will use this opportunity to highlight on the disaster and shortsightedness of the Zoning of Governorship.

Discussion with Marine Engineer Ini Ekong Udonwa, Governorship Candidate of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

Goh Chee: Good Evening Mr Udonwa, how are you today?

Udonwa: I am fine, thank you.

Goh Chee: Why are you contesting for Governorship in Akwa Ibom State when you are doing very well in Singapore?

Udonwa: Everybody is aware of the current status of the state – highest unemployment in Nigeria. The development of Akwa Ibom State does not commensurate with her resources – both human and economic. There is no economic foundation to sustain economic growth such as sea port, shipyards, commercial commerce hubs, industrial parks, weak civil service etc. Akwa Ibom at present has returned to the status of Abacha era where there was high unemployment and hardship. The present Government is not doing enough to tap on the available human resources of the State for sustain development.

I am contesting for the Governorship election to bring Economic development to the state by transforming Akwa Ibom State into an industrialized, vibrant cosmopolitan city state with good infrastructure that provides opportunities and jobs for every Akwa Ibomite. In as much as I have made Singapore my home and country during the past years’, seeing the suffering of my people affects your sense of being.
